Terms of use and disclaimer
Can You Send is a free, volunteer-built service that estimates whether sandstone at climbing areas may still be wet after rain. By using the website or app, you agree to these terms.
It's an estimate, not a guarantee
- Readings come from automated rain gauges (Synoptic/MesoWest), National Weather Service forecasts and, where no gauge reports, a weather model (Open-Meteo). Gauges miss rain, report late or fail; forecasts are wrong; rain can fall at the crag and not at the gauge.
- Rain gauges measure rain, not rock. Sandstone can stay wet inside long after the surface looks dry, especially on shaded or seeping faces. "Likely dry" never means the rock is dry or safe.
- Always check the rock and the ground yourself. If the ground is damp, the rock is too.
Climbing is dangerous
Rock climbing and bouldering can cause serious injury or death. You are solely responsible for your decisions, your safety and your gear. Nothing on this service is climbing instruction or professional advice.
Follow land manager rules
Closures, permits, bans and local ethics change. Information about them here may be incomplete or out of date. The land manager's current rules always win, including rules against climbing wet rock.
No warranty; limitation of liability
The service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, including accuracy, availability or fitness for a purpose. To the fullest extent allowed by law, the developer is not liable for any injury, loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, the service.
Posts in "Conditions & beta"
Posts are screened automatically by an AI safety model (Llama Guard, running on Cloudflare), which can publish a post right away, reject it, or hold it for the developer. Posts are reviewed and may be edited out or removed at any time. Keep them honest and on topic: conditions, beta, closures. No harassment, spam, ads, personal information about others, or encouragement to break land manager rules (including climbing wet rock). By posting, you let Can You Send display your post. You're responsible for what you post.
Condition reports
If you send a condition report, it must be honest and must not include personal information. The condition and time may be shown publicly; any note is sent only to the developer, who may use it to improve the service. Reports may be removed at any time.
Links and data from others
Links to other sites (Mountain Project, land managers, coalitions, Facebook groups, gyms and shops) are for convenience; listing them isn't an endorsement, and their own terms apply.
Changes
These terms may change; the date below shows the latest version. The service may change or stop at any time.
